Job Description
We are recruiting for a Mechanical Engineer III on behalf of our client. This is a contract position based in Ireland, and we are specifically seeking candidates who already have work authorisation in Ireland.
Key Responsibilities
- Support CFD analysis of airflow and cooling performance in data centres using tools such as HELYX, OpenFOAM, or similar.
- Post-process simulation results and prepare clear, visual summaries for senior engineers and stakeholders.
- Assist with validation of CFD models against real-world operational data and benchmarks.
- Collaborate with design and sustainability teams to assess cooling performance and water usage impacts.
- Support the development and refinement of in-house modelling tools for airflow and water use simulations.
- Document model assumptions, inputs, and interpretation of results.
- Participate in knowledge-sharing and training to learn company-specific CFD workflows and standards.
- Occasionally assist with thermal or water modelling for experimental designs or new technologies.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (or currently pursuing one) in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of fluid dynamics and heat transfer fundamentals.
- Practical experience with CFD tools such as HELYX, OpenFOAM, ANSYS, or SimScale.
- Basic Python scripting and proficiency with Excel for data analysis.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Eagerness to learn and adapt to company-specific design requirements and CFD workflows.
Preferred Qualifications
- 1–3 years of experience in HVAC, data centre cooling, electronics cooling, or building services.
- Familiarity with psychrometrics, airside economisers, or evaporative cooling systems.
- Exposure to automation or scripting for CFD workflows (Python, bash, macros, etc.).
- Awareness of sustainability metrics such as PUE or WUE.
- Passion for sustainable, scalable, high-performance infrastructure design
